SAINT VINCENT FERRER BOOL DISTRICT, TAGBILARAN CITY

THE CHAPEL IN THE MAKING
The construction of the first chapel in Bool materialized in 1983 with the cooperation of Santiago Pahang, Alejandro Pahang, Jose Mingoc, Olong Saligumba and Francisco Ligong. They fulfilled their promise, which is to build a chapel right after their perilous homecoming in Bohol. The construction of the first chapel was about 100 meter west of the present site. A convent was also made. Both were made out of simple materials – wood, bamboo and nipa.

THE WINGED SAINT
One memorable night brothers Santiago and Alejandro Pahang went fishing; a drifted wood got trapped in their net. Realizing what it was, the brothers threw aside the drifted wood. But it kept on getting trapped no matter how they tried to get it out on their way for three times. Thinking that it was a remarkable phenomenon – a miracle – they brought it home. It was Santiago Pahang who decided to sculpt the image of St. Vincent Ferrer out of it. Since then, St. Vincent Ferrer became the Patron Saint of Bool. Feast days were celebrated anually, every 5th day of April.

THE YEARS THEREAFTER
When war broke out in 1940’s, the chapel was partially damage during the bombing of the Japanese Imperial Air Force on December 8, 1944. When liberation came in 1946, the chapel was repaired by the Boolanon residents through the “Bayanihan” system. During the period 1967-1973, a need of construction of the present chapel came into view. Architect Constancio Saligumba and Engr. Romeo Ligason were jointly tapped to make the blueprint for its plan. Thereafter, until the year 1996, various projects and improvements on both the chapel and the convent were made through the exemplary leaderships of the succeeding officials.

ST. VINCENT FERRER CHAPLAINCY
The exemplary efforts made by the chapel organizations and the unwavering support of the people in maintaining both the material and the spiritual church of Bool did not go unnoticed by His Excellency Most reverend Bishop Leopoldo Tumulak, D.D., Bishop of Diocese of Tagbilaran. Upon seeing that the Bool church is mature enough to stand on its own as a parish, Bishop Leo decided to consider the chapel’s application for parish hood. Hence, the Bool chapel was elevated to the Chaplaincy status in June of 1996 with Rev. Fathers Ranulfo D. Docabo and Jeffrey P. Malanog as Chaplains.

THE ST. VINCENT FERRER QUASI-PARISH
Three years after acquiring its Chaplaincy status , the St. Vincent Ferrer Chaplaincy was canonically erected to the status of a Quasi-Parish on June 27, 1999 in a simple rites within the pontifical mass officiated by Bishop Leopoldo with Rev. Fr. Ranulfo Docab named as its first Parish Priest.
